I have managed to get my card working with VLC on Xubuntu Hardy. After following your instructions for TV Time, I did the following in VLC:

1. Click on Open Capture Device.
2. Choose Video4Linux.
3. Change video device name to /dev/video0
4. Click on the box beside Norm and select NTSC. (I'm based in the USA.)
5. Click on Advanced Options.
6. Go to the box beside Channel and choose which channel to view/record.
7. Click OK.
8. Click OK to watch channel. (To record, you have to check the box beside "Stream output". Click on the Settings box to choose your recording format and where to save the video file to.)

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get the audio working on the tuner card with VLC. I will ask on the Ubuntu Forums and see if sox can be used inside VLC. (I can use sox with TV Time by using a customized bash script.)

Any idea on how to get this card running in VLC? I can get the audio portion of the card to play in TV Time by installing sox and creating a bash script located at /usr/bin/tvtuner.sh which uses TV Time along with sox. Unfortunately, the audio and video get out of sync. I'd like to do the same with VLC. If this doesn't work, I may just plop down some money for a WinTV Go. It's audio is played by connecting a cable to its audio out jack and connecting the other end into the computer's line-in jack. I've heard TV cards which use that setup are less likely to have the audio and video get out of sync. Plus, VLC is supposed to be a pretty good solution for a free PVR.

yes bro that should be.

use

sudo modprobe saa7134 card=57 tuner=tda8290+75

if you failed to install this successfully then use tuner just 75. that means.

sudo modprobe saa7134 card=57 tuner=75

if you failed to install again. then you need to use another tv viewer software.

if you have any problem again you are most welcome to post here.

good luck.

Easy instructions. When I ran dmseg, I got this:

saa7133[0]: subsystem: 1461:f31f, board: Avermedia AVerTV GO 007 FM [card=57,autodetected]
tuner 0-004b: type set to tda8290+75

Does this mean I should use the following?
sudo modprobe saa7134 card=57 tuner=tda8290+75
